Also having problems with the modem and the same kind of install issue but I dont really need the modem but I do need the audio. UN-select Show compatible Hardware. Thanks again. Download and try to install (it will fail) the Conexant AC '97 audio driver.
If your driver isn't working, use the driver having the same OEM with the your laptop/desktop brand name. I have a Gateway MX6437 and I've installed a modem driver that was supposedly for another Gateway model, an older model, and now it works--not that I needed it to work All of Google. If you are looking for an update , pickup the latest one.

They tell you to download the drivers for your notebook...they install and then code 10!!!! These driver(s) may not work with your computer.
